Psychiatry Division
Introduction
- The Psychiatric Department of the Kaohsiung General Hospital of the Armed Forces was established in 1954 and was the second psychiatric department to be founded in a general hospital in Taiwan. The department has long been dedicated to clinical medical services, research, and teaching in the field of psychiatry. Additionally, it collaborates with various psychiatric medical units in Kaohsiung and Pingtung regions to provide
comprehensive psychiatric services to the public. As a part of the military medical system, the department also actively participates in the military’s suicide prevention efforts, safeguarding the mental health of military personnel. - The department offers psychiatric outpatient services, acute psychiatric wards, day care wards, psychiatric home care, and forensic psychiatric assessments. It also manages the affiliated community rehabilitation center, recovery homes, and emergency short-term placement centers for children and adolescents. In addition, the department provides de-addiction clinics, offering treatment for tobacco and alcohol addition, as well as methadone treatment services.
- In terms of education, the department has contributed to the training of personnel in the psychiatric field for decades. It is qualified to train psychiatric specialists and is accredited for training occupational therapists and clinical psychologists under the PGY program. It also offers psychiatric internships for nursing students.
