Members of the KAFGH Medical Quality Management Office participated in the International Society for Quality in Health Care(ISQua) SEOUL 2023 international conference in Korea to share our experience fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic and also learn from other countries’ experiences to improve the quality of our healthcare.

COVID-19 is the most severe pandemic of the century, affecting the overall capacity of hospitals and the deployment of resources. It also posed a great challenge to maintain healthcare quality and patient safety.

In order to keep the patients safe in the hospital, avoid cross-infections, provide isolation treatment for critical out-of-hospital infected patients, and maintain the capacity of acute care, we agilely developed the medical resource scheduling application system using the DevOps concept at the most crucial time of COVID-19. Positive patients were immediately detected and transferred to isolation wards, and the number of isolation days was tracked. Once the required number of isolation days was reached, medical staff were reminded to assess the patient and release him/her from isolation as soon as possible. The system effectively enhances the management efficiency of clinicians so that they can focus on their healthcare work.

During the peak of the Kaohsiung outbreak from May to July 2022, 470 COVID-19 patients were admitted to our hospital. We maximized our valuable and limited healthcare resources to take care of patients who needed to be hospitalized as much as we could and to provide the best quality of medical care.
