Tips for preventing falls in seniors

According to the Ministry of the Interior statistics, as of January 113, Taiwan's population aged 65 and over has exceeded 4.31 million (accounting for 18.4% of the total population), reaching an aged society. Based on the National Development Council's projection, by year 114 our country will enter a super‑aged society, at which point 1 in every 5 people will be over 65. The 106 “National Health Interview Survey” indicated that among seniors aged 65 and above, about 1 in every 6 people had experienced a fall in the past year (15.5%). Severe falls among the elderly can lead to prolonged bed rest or even death; and seniors who have fallen may also increase the family caregiving burden and economic costs, so fall prevention is a very important issue.

Director Wu Zhaojun of the National Health Agency urges the public to start fall prevention in daily life. More information can be found on the National Health Agency official website 【Health Topics> Healthy Living> Elderly Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention>Senior Fall Prevention Zone】 for inquiry.
