Founding

Hospital Founded in Nanjing

After the victory of the War of Resistance, the hospital was established in Tangshan near Nanjing, named 'Ministry of Military Affairs Nanjing Army Hospital'.

1949
Relocation

Relocated to Kaohsiung

Following the government's relocation, the hospital was re-established at the former site on Liuhe 1st Road, Kaohsiung, and renamed 'Second General Hospital of the Armed Forces'.

Civilian Medical Services Launched

Pioneering among military hospitals, established civilian medical services department to provide medical care for the general public, renamed 'Combined Logistics Command Second General Hospital'.

Relocation

Moved to Current Location

Relocated to the current site on Zhongzheng 1st Road (former Weiwuying Light Aviation Airport), a modern six-story medical building meeting 1970s international standards.

Completed the first peritoneal dialysis catheter implantation and first open-heart surgery, marking milestones in medical innovation.

Reorganization

Renamed Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital

Under the 'Enhancement Plan', renamed to 'Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital' and incorporated 'Armed Forces 815 Hospital' as 'Pingtung Branch', expanding service coverage.

Established regional SARS dedicated ward and was recognized by the Department of Health as a 'Meritorious Medical Institution in SARS Prevention'.

Typhoon Morakot Relief

When Typhoon Morakot devastated southern Taiwan, our disaster medical team was stationed in Neipu Township, Qishan and Taoyuan Districts to provide medical services to disaster victims and rescue personnel.

Expansion

Branch Integration and Military Medical Building

Incorporated Zuoying and Gangshan Armed Forces Hospitals as branches, and opened the 'Military Medical Building' - the first hospital in southern Taiwan with CAA-approved helicopter airlift capability.

Kaohsiung Gas Explosion Response

During the Kaohsiung gas explosion on August 1st, the hospital immediately recalled 227 medical staff to provide emergency medical care.

Hybrid Operating Room Opened

Opened hybrid operating room combining minimally invasive surgery with 3D imaging technology, reducing surgery time and risks while improving safety.

First Da Vinci Robotic Surgery

Completed first Da Vinci robot-assisted laparoscopic hernia repair on September 21st. Also achieved first stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury and established Pain Management Center and Health Management Center.

Expansion

Three Medical Centers Completed

On December 1st, held joint opening ceremony for Da Vinci Surgery Center, Nuclear Medicine Center, and Cardiovascular Center, marking a major milestone in regional medical services.

Liver Transplant Qualification Obtained

Received Ministry of Health and Welfare approval for liver transplant surgery, becoming the first regional hospital with transplant qualification in the military medical system. Also established Level I Sleep Center.

First Living Donor Liver Transplant

Collaborated with Tri-Service General Hospital to complete the first living donor liver transplant, demonstrating commitment to medical research and service quality improvement, fulfilling the vision of being a guardian of military and civilian health.
