The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (hereafter “CDC”) announced today (the 5th) a new domestic measles cluster caused by an imported case. The index case is a male in his 40s, a Taiwanese citizen from central Taiwan (Case 1), who was on a business trip to Malaysia from late January to early February 2026 and, seven days after returning, began to experience fever, cough, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and rash. After the rash appeared, he visited a clinic, and when his symptoms did not improve he went to the emergency department of a hospital, where testing reported on February 13 confirmed measles. Case 2 is a woman in her 20s from central Taiwan who had contact with the index case during his clinic visit; she developed fever and rash 18 days after exposure, sought medical care after contacting health authorities, and was confirmed positive after testing. This cluster totals two confirmed cases. The index case had 58 identified contacts; all except Case 2 completed monitoring on March 4. Case 2 has 87 identified contacts, who will be monitored until March 22.
