- With Mother's Day approaching, Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital held a warm and touching Mother's Day celebration tea party on May 8, presided over by Hospital Director Major General Hsieh Tsung-Pao. The specially invited guests were Ms. Fang, who had just completed a liver transplant, and Ms. Liang, who donated part of her liver to her mother out of filial devotion, along with their families. Accompanied by senior hospital executives and the medical team, everyone cut a cake together to celebrate the recovery and wish a Happy Mother's Day in a heartwarming scene.
- Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital, in collaboration with the Tri-Service General Hospital liver transplant team, successfully completed two living liver transplant surgeries. The first patient, Ms. Fang, approximately 55 years old, suffered from liver cancer and cirrhosis with severe ascites. As her condition worsened, after understanding her diagnosis and treatment options, Ms. Fang's eldest son Mr. Chang-Chien volunteered to donate his liver to repay his mother's nurturing. The second patient, Mr. Liang, a retired Navy Lieutenant Colonel in his sixties, developed acute liver failure from a hepatitis B flare-up. When medication proved ineffective and an urgent transplant was needed, his second daughter Ms. Liang immediately volunteered. The surgery was successful, and he is currently recovering.
- Ms. Fang expressed immense gratitude to the hospital team for their expertise and attentive care. As a mother who carried her two sons for ten months and raised them, after testing confirmed compatibility, she accepted her eldest son's filial liver donation. Her recovery is progressing well, and she said this is the best Mother's Day gift.
- Ms. Liang expressed gratitude for her father's lifelong care. As a mother of two children herself, she believes "You don't truly understand your parents' love until you become a parent," which is why she decided to donate to her father. Through the medical team's excellent transplant techniques and outstanding care, both surgeries were completed successfully, giving the patients new life and two families a fresh start. Being able to spend Mother's Day together with the medical staff before this occasion truly feels wonderful.
Going forward, Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital will continue to optimize medical and service quality, promote medical technology exchanges and learning, cultivate talent, and strive toward becoming a quasi-medical center in the southern region, benefiting military personnel and giving back to the community.
