The hospital established the Animal Experiment Research Laboratory in 1996 (ROC Year 85) as the unit responsible for overseeing the care and use of laboratory animals at Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital.

The facility currently comprises one Laboratory Director (concurrent position), three Assistant Researchers (part-time), and one Veterinarian (outsourced from Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital).

The duties and responsibilities include the following:
1. Managing the acquisition, housing management, and scientific applications of laboratory animals at this hospital.
2. Organizing training and consultations on basic techniques and ethics of laboratory animal experimentation.
3. Tasks assigned by the Animal Experiment Management Committee.
4. Coordinating laboratory animal care operations at this hospital.
5. Maintaining laboratory animal housing facilities at this hospital.
6. Standardizing the scientific application of laboratory animals at this hospital in compliance with the Animal Protection Act.
