Excerpt from “A Life of Military Horses Under the White Robe, Medical View of Life History”
Our hospital has a long history. Since taking over operations in October of the 34th year of the Republic of China after the victory of the War of Resistance, it has grown steadily to the present day, yet we never become complacent, always remembering the hard work and contributions of our predecessors. Therefore, preserving the hospital’s unique history, the developmental value for the national armed forces’ military medical corps and health services, as well as the progress of each medical specialty and administrative department, becomes a primary task for future generations.
Following visits to the Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Training Center and the Ministry of National Defense Southern Regional Reserve Command in 2016 (Republic year 105), to the Army Officer School, the Ministry of Justice Correctional Bureau Kaohsiung Prison and the Kaohsiung City Government Land Administration Bureau Yancheng Land Office in 2017 (year 106), to Fengshan Second Household Registration Office in 2018 (year 107), to the Army Aviation Base Service Factory and the Civil Aeronautics Administration Kaohsiung International Airport in 2019 (year 108), to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Highway Administration Third District Maintenance Engineering Office in 2020 (year 109), to the Navy Education Training and Standards Development Command and this year to the Navy Combat Systems Factory and the Ministry of Justice Administrative Execution Agency Pingtung Office, we conducted on‑site benchmark learning, observing the excellent agencies’ file management practices, and re‑examined areas where our hospital’s file management is not yet perfect.
Benchmark Learning
Over the years, our hospital has visited various outstanding agencies, drawing on diverse experiences. In addition to file preservation, storage hardware, and flexible file applications, these can serve as references for our future file management.

File Promotion and Application
Provide guidelines for file access, application procedures for file usage, application forms, etc., for public download, and set up a Q&A section and links to related resource websites, bringing the public close to the files.
File Month Activities
Hold File Month activities within the hospital, with prominent exhibition areas and clear information. Staff on site explain how to apply for files and use related link functions, bringing the public closer to our files.
Hospital History Museum
The Hospital History Museum is like a historical trajectory; by exhibiting the hospital’s uniquely significant files, photos, and artifacts, it leads us to experience the building’s legacy firsthand. Through open visits to the museum, staff and visitors can reminisce about the hospital’s history and learn from the past for the future.

Publications
To record each stage of growth and development, every publication showcases the historical value of its contemporary context. Our hospital has successively published “65th Anniversary Special Issue”, “Leaping Forty: Heritage and Innovation”, and “75th Anniversary: Towards a New Vision of Medicine”, detailing medical innovation and transformation. We look forward to moving toward “smart healthcare” in the future, creating a brilliant new chapter for us.

“Kaohsiung City Petrochemical Explosion Medical Rescue” record and “0206 Tainan Earthquake Medical and Health Support” documentary, the disaster relief process is vivid. The rescue experience not only tests the medical team's response capability but also provides valuable experience for facing any future challenges.

Outpatient medical news provides the public with more healthcare information, specialty medical services, health education knowledge (including group and dual‑parent education series), free cancer screening information, integrated care outpatient services, and age‑friendly services.

Diverse Exhibitions
Through corridors traversed by the public, an image wall displays award documentation and administrative video files, creating a new highlight for the hospital’s cultural space. Using a timeline corridor to exhibit historical development and major events of each period, we create an atmosphere of “writing history with files.”

To accommodate the ever‑increasing files and meet the “File Storage Facility Standards” set by the National Development Council’s Archives Administration, we aim to provide a more complete “home” for the files. Currently, our hospital plans that after the new building is commissioned, a suitable storage space in the main area will be designated as “Archive Room 2,” allowing valuable archival history to be passed on to future generations; files let us look back to the past and look forward to the future, thus we are all guardians of the archives.
The “Archive Room 2” project has been incorporated into the hospital’s 115‑to‑119 year mid‑to‑long‑term archive management plan to address space constraints. In the future, the archival history of the Armed Forces Kaohsiung General Hospital will have a brand‑new appearance!

The hospital’s history, its evolution and preserved old files are like a rich chronicle, recording the changes and development of the institution, tracing the countless efforts and dedication of medical staff past and present. This history not only witnesses the hospital’s growth, but also serves as the basis for the legacy of the military medical spirit.
Old files not only record the past but also enable foresight and innovation for the future; their value lies in inheritance and continuation. Our hospital will continue to work tirelessly to promote digital preservation and public sharing, continuing to write new chapters in the long river of history.
