To implement the goal of optimizing medical services and safeguarding the health of military personnel and civilians, our hospital, with more than 30 professional medical staff from the Medical Department's Integrated Planning Office, Medical Service Team, Health Integration Team, Radiology Department, and Cancer Screening Team, entered Baolai Junior High School in Liougu District, Kaohsiung City on March 16, 2025 (the 114th year) to participate in the “Rural Free Clinic and Health Screening Activity” jointly organized by Liougu District Health Center and Gaoping Tzu Chi Medical Association, providing comprehensive and convenient medical services to over one hundred local indigenous residents.
In this free clinic activity, the four major cancer screenings (oral cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer) subsidized by the National Health Agency achieved notable results. The radiology team also specially utilized a mobile X‑ray unit to perform chest X‑ray imaging, effectively screening for potential tuberculosis and thoracic diseases, achieving early detection and treatment.
The Baolai area is a “medical‑underserved village” in Kaohsiung City, with insufficient medical resources and inconvenient transportation. Our hospital’s medical team upholds the core values of “safety, professionalism, caring, and excellence,” providing comprehensive health assessments and medical consultations, patiently explaining test results and follow‑up care recommendations, earning strong approval from residents.
Medical Department Director Li Bo‑qun stated that the medical team not only focuses on disease screening but also emphasizes health promotion and preventive medicine, using professional medical services to realize the hospital’s vision of being a “trusted guardian of military and civilian health.” In addition, our hospital has partnered with the Gaoping Tzu Chi Medical Association to promote healthy eating and chronic disease prevention, and collaborates with civil affairs, police, fire, and environmental protection units to advocate issues such as “caring for the vulnerable, fraud prevention, disaster preparedness, and energy‑saving carbon reduction,” thereby comprehensively enhancing community health literacy.
Local residents who participated in the free clinic said that, because of the remote location, accessing medical care is usually very inconvenient. This time, our hospital proactively reached into the rural area, providing professional and diverse health examinations, sparing them the fatigue of travel and allowing them to feel the warmth and care from the medical team.
Our hospital will continue to implement the short‑term goal of “strengthening a culture of patient safety and enhancing overall quality,” and advance toward the medium‑ and long‑term goals of “advancing military medicine and strengthening emergency, critical, and rare cancer care.” Through vertical integration and a bidirectional referral system, we actively develop smart medical technologies and deepen community services, striving to become the premier hospital of choice for military personnel and civilians in southern Taiwan.
