CDC Revision of Regulations on Handling Infectious Biological Materials and Update on Data Maintenance and Reporting in the 115‑Q2 Laboratory Biosafety Information Management System

  1. In accordance with the amendment announced on April 30, 115 to the “Regulations on the Management of Infectious Biological Materials” Articles 2, 9, 17‑18, and 20‑21, the revisions to the aforementioned management regulations are published on the CDC’s global website (www.cdc.gov.tw)/Infectious Diseases and Epidemic Prevention Topics/Laboratory Biosafety/Regulations on the Management of Infectious Biological Materials/4‑Management of Pathogens of Different Hazard Groups and Biological Toxins. 

  1. According to the aforementioned regulations, laboratories and storage facilities of the designated units that use or store Biosafety Level 2 to 4 pathogens or biological toxins must, each quarter, conduct at least one inventory of the items and quantities (weights) used or stored, and then perform data maintenance and confirm reporting in the aforementioned system. 

  1. According to the verification of the aforementioned system’s data up to June 30, 115, a total of 604 units nationwide have been approved to establish biosafety officers/biosafety committees; in the second quarter, there were no units nationwide that had not completed data maintenance or reporting (completion rate of 100%).
